After the rehabilitation of the historic Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, an updated and welcoming visitor center was needed. Apgar Transit Center is the west terminus of this project, situated close to the main park entrance. Supported by heavy timber and locally reclaimed log columns, Apgar is an integral hub for this Federal Highways-funded project. The transit center includes implementation of a new park-wide transit system and associated comfort stations, drop-off and parking, shelters, benches, and signage. In addition, an ADA accessible pedestrian trail was built to provide access to Apgar Village. As a LEED Gold project, water and drainage quantity were important to the design. Appropriate detention and water quality through infiltration were provided using natural moraines in the area.
