Martin/Martin provided structural calculations, including design parameters, fiberglass material design, and connection design for a large oculus fabricated by Kreysler & Associates. The oculus is composed of lightweight FRP to allow for a unique, sculpted shape. The completed facade creates what the architect Elizabeth Diller has called a "porous exoskeleton" that admits filtered daylight. The indented window by the museum’s entrance looks as though it has been impressed by a giant thumb.
