Martin/Martin provided structural engineering design services for this 48,500-seat major league baseball stadium, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The structure includes 62 luxury boxes, six party boxes, and 5,600 club level seats. The feature element of this project is its moving, retractable roof, the first of its kind in the United States. It provides for sun/shade control necessary for the field's natural grass and for minimizing heat gain in seating areas.
The roof opens in 4 minuets and 23 seconds. The mechanics of the roof work so well, to this day, it has completed more open/close cycles than every other retractable roof stadium in North America combined.
