Research 1 and 2 are located at the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center on the 577-acre Anschutz Medical Campus. Research 1 is 623,000 SF and includes two buildings that accommodate office and conference space, two auditoriums, a 53,000 SF vivarium, computer facilities, hazardous chemical storage, generic wet laboratories, core laboratories, and lab support space. The south building is 230 feet high (13-story) and the north building is 165 feet high (7-story).
Research 2 is a 12-story, 480,000 SF facility that includes wet laboratories, core laboratory space, lab support, faculty office and conference rooms, animal research space, building support space, and a below-grade vivarium level. The buildings are interconnected via bridges and an underground tunnel.
There are three pedestrian bridges connecting the buildings that span 135 feet across an existing roadway. The bridges are designed to limit vertical accelerations due to occupant induced walking motions. In addition, the lower bridge supports a mechanical chaseway that links the mechanical room in the south tower to the north tower.
