Structural and civil engineering services for a 142,000 SF facility, featuring two buildings and a connecting lobby. The project was executed using an aggressive design-build approach to expedite a 12-month schedule required by reassignment of troops to Ft. Carson as a part of the Department of Defense BRAC program. The composite steel frame is designed for progressive collapse in accordance with DOD standards. Civil services included analysis of existing conditions, roadway, site, storm sewer, and drainage design along with site layout, grading, detention, fire access and hydrant locations, and LEED site design.
The building is organized around a courtyard, providing maximum daylight to interior spaces and allowing each brigade its own entry, offices, and classrooms, without interfering cross-traffic from other brigades. The building is now the national prototype for Brigade and Battalion Headquarters.
