Martin/Martin is working closely with the Lockheed Martin Antarctic Support Contract team to provide evaluations and improvements to the McMurdo Station wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). As part of the evaluations, we received, reviewed, and summarized five years of WWTP operational data, original design specifications, and record drawings. Nitrogen and phosphorous discharge was also evaluated. We provided recommendations for existing WWTP optimization and future improvements for efficiency and sustainability. Some recommendations have been implemented with noticeable changes in operational efficiency, and others have been budgeted for future improvements. In 2016, we prepared a Standard Operating Procedure for the WWTP.
