Structural and civil engineering services for a new 130,000 SF integrated biofuels test facility. Stage 1 included a 27,000 SF high-bay facility and associated process equipment. Stage 2 included an additional high-bay facility and process equipment, 3,800 SF modified lab space, and 11,900 SF office building. The high bay areas include a basement and mezzanine supporting processing equipment. Basement milling room designed for deflagration pressures from process materials. Civil engineering services include drainage analysis and design, utility (water/sanitary sewer) routing and crossings, grading, stormwater design, ADA access, pavement designs, complete horizontal control and construction administration services. The facility is adjacent to the Process Development Unit in the Alternative Fuel Users Facility and expanded NREL's capabilities to develop new cellulosic ethanol technologies. The IBRF allows the laboratory to work simultaneously on multiple research projects with multiple research partners.
