Martin/Martin provided civil and structural engineering services to the 77,000 SF recreation center and fieldhouse. The defining characteristic of the building is the “Canyon Roof” which features gracefully undulating glulam beams that seemingly float above with a glass clerestory below on all sides. The fitness area offers an expansive view of the mountains to the west with a two-story exterior curtain wall system supported by a combination of concrete, structural steel, and glulam beams. The upper level features a figure-eight style indoor walking/jogging track that weaves through the gym and fitness areas. The track is entirely roof supported preventing users of the track from vibrating the two-story glazing partition.
